Nido
At NIDO, our vision is to accelerate the global transition toward low-carbon, circular, and industrialized construction. Our first product, the NIDO Hydrogel Panel, was created to solve a critical bottleneck in timber construction: CLT buildings still depend on non-structural concrete and additional acoustic insulation layers to comply with fire, thermal, and acoustic regulations. These conventional materials are carbon-intensive, heavy, slow to install, and incompatible with circular and prefabricated construction systems. We chose to develop the NIDO Hydrogel Panel because one of the largest drivers of climate change lies in the hidden impact of building materials. Cement alone accounts for 8% of global CO₂ emissions, and its continued use in timber systems undermines the environmental promise of wood construction. The NIDO Hydrogel Panel is a patented, nature-based biomaterial made from algae, enzymes, and minerals. It replaces both non-structural concrete and insulation in CLT floors, reducing carbon emissions by 94%, construction time from 30 to just 5 days, and material costs by up to 12%. Its lightweight and reusable design enables more efficient structural systems and supports disassemblable, dry construction, minimizing waste and embodied carbon throughout the building’s life cycle.
