ABOUT SVENSKA AEROGEL Svenska Aerogel manufactures and commercializes Quartzene® – a mesoporous and flexible material that adds essential and more sustainable properties to different end products. By incorporating Quartzene® as a functional additive, products become more efficient through a reduced need for other materials, decreased weight, and energy savings. Our business concept is to meet the market’s need for new materials that are in line with global sustainability objectives. Quartzene® offers similar material properties as classic aerogels but is more sustainable due to its simplified and less resource-intensive manufacturing process. To produce Quartzene®, we utilize natural resources – silicon, water, and renewable energy – in a patented process. The flexibility of the process allows modification of the material’s morphology, particle size, porosity, and other features, enabling a wide use in many different end products and business segments. Svenska Aerogel’s head office is located in Gävle, Sweden. It includes a lab and a production facility with a capacity exceeding 200 tons per year. We have a wide network of distributors and are represented in Europe, Asia, and North America. Our innovative aerogel material, Quartzene®, enhances our customers products’ functionality in areas such as thermal insulation, lightweight design, fire resistance, heat and solar reflection, among many other properties. We focus on four main customer segments: Building & Construction, Process Industry, Transport and Advanced. BUILDING & CONSTRUCTION Quartzene® can enhance energy efficiency and other material properties that are in demand in the industry: thermal insulation, low density, and increased safety. Examples of applications include: - Cool roof solutions - Heat-insulating paints, plasters, and coatings - Fire protection paints for wood and metal - PIR foam panels - Efficient matting additive PROCESS INDUSTRY Efficient insulation featuring Quartzene® can be utilized to reduce heat losses, save energy, minimize condensation issues, limit corrosion under insulation, optimize processes, and prevent injuries from hot surfaces in the workplace. Examples of applications include: - “Safe touch” thermal insulation coatings - Thermal insulation blankets TRANSPORT Quartzene® offers the transport industry thermal insulation that is high-performing, lightweight, fire-retardant, and increasing the safety of passengers. Examples of applications include: - Heat-insulating, flame-retardant surface layers and composites - Thermal runaway prevention for battery cells - Carrier of copper in antifouling paints ADVANCED The Advanced segment targets customers with technically advanced products across various industries, where innovation and performance are key. Quartzene’s flexible and versatile properties enable high-performance solutions for advanced applications. Examples of applications include: - Thermal insulation: in fibers, textiles, and composite structures with superior insulation performance. - Controlled release systems: Regulating the release rate of active ingredients in for example active coatings, cosmetics and life sciences. - Filtration and sorption: Enabling advanced separation, purification, and moisture control in air, gas, and liquid filtration applications. THE PRODUCTION Our concept for manufacturing Quartzene® is unique and addresses sustainability at several levels. To produce the material, natural resources – silicon, water, and energy – are used in a patented process. “The Master Pilot Plant” was in operation commissioned in late 2019. Today, the production unit plant has a capacity of hundreds of tons of Quartzene® annually and is prepared for further expansion, with a total capacity of 1,000 tons per year. MODULES Svenska Aerogel’s production of Quartzene® is designed in modules that can be set up in the customers’ facilities or in customer-dense areas. The modules can be adapted to meet specific volume needs of our customers. This aligns with our commitment to sustainable development throughout the manufacturing chain, aiming to enhance logistics efficiency, minimize transportation needs, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
