Staff Backend Engineer

Gretel's mission is to build the world's leading developer platform for synthetic data. We empower developers and data scientists to synthesize, transform, and classify data, making data innovation faster, safer, and more accessible. As a Staff Backend Engineer, you will play a critical role in designing, building, and maintaining the core backend systems and infrastructure that power Gretel's platform. You will tackle challenging technical problems related to distributed systems, data processing, and cloud infrastructure, contributing significantly to the scalability, reliability, and performance of our services. You will work closely with product managers, data scientists, and other engineers to deliver high-quality software solutions.

Requirements:

- 8+ years of professional software development experience.

- Expertise in Python and experience with backend frameworks (e.g., Flask, Django).

- Extensive experience with cloud platforms (AWS preferred, GCP, Azure).

- Strong understanding of distributed systems, microservices architecture, and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).

- Experience designing and managing databases (SQL, NoSQL) and data pipelines.

- Proven ability to lead complex technical projects and mentor junior engineers.

- Experience with MLOps or data-intensive applications is a plus.

- BS/MS in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
